Icespiration was set up by Louise Barnes. A former Teacher of Geography and Head of Department in the UK and overseas, Louise has spent 14 years travelling to Iceland and forging relationships with Icelanders in South Iceland. With over 22 trips under her belt, Louise has been able to set up educational and tourist visits to the Land of Fire and Ice. Icespiration was set up when Louise saw the environmental impact of visits to this land and how little was being returned to the Icelandic community as well as a lack of enrichment on otherwise look-see tours, Louise decided to offer something different.
Working on the principle that Iceland should gain from the visits too, and that children should learn geography along with Icelandic culture, she focused on visits with a pedagogical trip benefitting the whole child and Icespiration was hence, formed.
Icespiration and it’s principles will appeal to many youth groups and older generations alike: scouts, girl guides, youth groups, specialist groups eg, photography and bird watchers, environmentalists, leisure groups eg, yoga retreat etc as well as Universities and Schools. We also encourage groups to contact us as we offer two annual teachers, friends and families visits and anyone can join us.
Icespiration supports women in business, small and medium sized enterprises in Iceland and the UK, schools and institutions, individual farmers, fishermen, local bakeries & restaurants, craftspeople and cottage industries. We work in conjunction with the Icelandic Tourist Board and are currently working on developing a sustainable award for foreign companies working in Iceland.
From 2017 we will be British Standard BS8848 compliant. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office advise all youth groups and schools undertaking fieldvisits overseas to go with a BS8848 compliant provider. In Iceland we work closely with safe travel.is, an icelandic safety information service. We issue survival bags for certain trips eg, the River Varma mountain river walk. We carry icelandic phones and our drivers are all icelandic and familiar with the changing road and climate conditions within Iceland.
We are ATOL protected. You get full atol protection only where flights depart from the UK (including if you fly into the UK then depart out again) albeit on scheduled airlines (not budget ones) and flight-plus tours. You will be issued with an ATOL certificate immediately upon making your booking.
I hope we can offer you a quotation for your next visit to Iceland and will find us a unique provider of visits to Iceland.
